Rationale
Peking Opera is one of the most significant theatrical traditions in China. It has existed for more than 200 years of history, creating many ‘firsts’ in Chinese drama. Peking Opera is not introduced in Malaysia yet.

Hence, there’s a need for us to introduce Peking Opera to Malaysia culture because there are many meanings behind it that are not introduced and understood by the Malaysia youth.

This is because we can also spread the quintessence and spirit of Peking Opera which is to endure hardship and work hard as we assimilate.

Design Concept
Being inspired by Mamak culture, we found an opportunity to incorporate Peking Opera culture into the things you see in Mamak stores, such as the cutleries and clothes the Mamak waiters wear, as Mamak stores are popular among Malaysian.

Peking Opera’s face painting is one of the specialities of Peking Opera and we believe this can be the driving factor to attract the Malaysian youth’s attention as we found out through our data collection that Peking opera face painting attracted Malaysian the most.
